About

Peter Plottel is an Australian photographer who specialises in close-up flower images, from intimate macro images to broader, more natural perspectives. Fascinated by the remarkable form and beauty of the smallest creatures around us, he also loves to capture detailed images of spiders and insects. Beyond macro work, he has a strong interest in photographing trees, birds, landscapes, and travel subjects.

Most of Peter’s work is created outdoors, making the use of both natural light and diffused flash. He also does some studio work, using artificial light sources and window light, depending on the subject, time of day and the mood he is trying to create.

Peter’s website is called Through Light, acknowledging the truism that light is central to capturing impactful images; both the light illuminating a subject at the time of capture and the light manipulated and optimised during post-processing.

He aims to achieve a pleasing balance of light with other key photographic elements such as composition, colour and tone, form, texture and subject matter. His ultimate objective is to create images that are visually engaging, well balanced and memorable, capturing both the beauty and the character of the subject.

Peter is inspired by many macro, flower, wildlife, woodland and landscape photographers and is very grateful to those who generously share their knowledge and expertise in cyberspace.
