About

I am an Australian photographer who specialises in flower images, from intimate macro images to broader, more natural perspectives. Being fascinated by the remarkable form and beauty of the smallest creatures around us, I also love to capture detailed images of spiders and insects. Beyond macro work, I have a strong interest in photographing trees, birds, landscapes and travel subjects.

Most of my work is created outdoors, making the use of both natural light and diffused flash. I also do some studio work, using both artificial light sources and window light, depending on the subject, time of day and the mood I am trying to create.

My website name, Through Light, is a nod to the simple truth that light is everything in photography. It shapes the image at the moment of capture, and continues to define it through the adjustments and refinements made during post-processing.

Light is, of course, just one piece of the puzzle. I strive to balance it with the other essential elements of photography, particularly subject matter, composition, colour, tone, form and texture, with the goal of producing images that are visually engaging and memorable.

I am inspired by many macro, flower, wildlife, woodland and landscape photographers and I am very grateful to those who generously share their knowledge and expertise in cyberspace.
